Time Line Therapy™ Explained
Time Line Therapy™ is a dissociative technique of active imagination which creates instant, positive and powerful changes. Time Line Therapy™ assists you to overcome mental obstacles (or limiting beliefs/decisions) that prevent you from being, doing and having what you want.
What is Time Line Therapy™?
The basis of human personality is time. The notion of time - the sum of memories and past experiences - determines our emotional state and behaviours. Human personality is but a collection of memories, and everyone has their own personal perception of time, which is mostly spatial in nature. Aristotle first spoke of the stream of time in Physics IV, and Sir Isaac Newton described time in his Principia Mathematica in 1687 as a single line, or a rail-road track with an infinite beginning and end. Einstein added to our perception of time even more when in his Theory of Relativity he abandoned the notion of absolute time in favour of the notion that each observer has his or her own conception of time. It is this perception of time which is the reason why Time Line Therapy™ is so effective.
If we have not given the events that led to our memories an empowering meaning they can lead to an unfulfilled life. As a result, the past can become ‘psychological baggage’ negatively affecting health, relationships and career/business. Memories and past experiences are stored in our Time Line, human beings’ own internal hard drive. Some memories have been given a negative meaning by us and as such take up a large space in the internal hard drive, making the human computer run slower as if it was infected by a virus. The meanings we attach to these memories may be so powerful that they hinder our personalities from evolving in a positive way, thus creating mental obstacles on the path to success, health and outstanding relationships.
There is no inherent meaning in any event, situation or occurrence other than that which we attach to it. In this context, Time Line Therapy™ is the most effective method to deal with negative emotions which we have linked in our minds to a certain event. It is a process in which past events can be given a new and empowering meaning, providing us with additional choices. This means that so-called negative experiences which initially meant: ‘I’m not good enough’ or ‘why is this happening to me’ can be given an empowering meaning such as ‘I will always do my absolute best’ or ‘how can I learn from this?’. This has a remarkable transformational impact on human lives as life no longer revolves around disempowering interpretations of past events.
Human behaviour is a result of past and present decisions. These decisions are often unconscious and are based on the meaning that certain events have been given by us. Time Line Therapy™ assists you to access memories and helps generate new decisions resulting in new and empowering behaviour. Flexibility of behaviour results in power for the individual and future opportunity. Inappropriate or unwarranted negative emotions such as anger, sadness, fear, guilt and hurt can be effectively changed to resourceful interpretations, behaviours and outlook with the use of Time Line Therapy™.
